Join Interactive Arts Graduate, artist Megan Powell for a Thursday Late at Manchester Museum for the premiere of her film A Fable for Tomorrow – a surrealist documentary that imagines the fate of the world’s last honeybee hive.
Weaving a tale of loneliness and a longing to understand these beguiling creatures and our relationship to them, the film features footage of bees from Manchester Art Gallery’s rooftop hives and is narrated by Maxine Peake.
Featuring live music from Manchester’s finest Liam Frost, discussions with beekeepers and ecologists, and all topped off with a glass of honey beer, the evening is an informal celebration of our city’s beloved emblem, and the need to protect its future.
The evening marks the culmination of Powell’s two-year-long Arts Council England funded project, After the Bees. Her accompanying visual artwork exhibition is located in the top floor gallery adjacent to The Study, and runs until July 2017.
